Hi Carol,
Glad your radiation is over with. You must be doing a happy dance!!
I was gone all day yesterday. Some women from my art class (including my teacher) took the T to Boston. We went to the Museum of Fine Arts to see the Edward Hopper exhibit. You've probably seen his work. He did a very famous painting of people in a diner late at night called "Nighthawks", and lots of paintings of buildings in Gloucester, Truro and Cape Elizabeth.
It was such a fun thing to do. These women I've met from watercolor class couldn't be nicer...so real and grounded. I HOPE against HOPE I'll be able to meet the same caliber of gals in Jacksonville.
Hope you have a good day today! Love you so much.

Hi Carol...wrote a long comment yesterday and it died in cyberspace. Checking to see if this goes
YAY! YAY! YAY! radiation AWAY AY AY!! and cancer too- GET OUT!
Counting the days till your boot camp!
Hi Ellen, your trip sounded so great....man, the Hopper exhibit, how cool. I'm betting that you you will meet some great people in Jacksonville.
I've moved a lot, as you know, and it has always seemed to take about a year to really start to feel a sense of belonging or connection to the new place. Joining a group is such an excellent way of
getting the whole process started.
Any chance of getting you to post some photos of your work and your new digs in Jacksonville?
Love you all- leslie
Well, it looks as though it went this time. So I shall write about the wedding we attended last weekend.
It was a fabulous affair. Jim was still not feeling too chipper as his neck is still hurting a lot and the pain from his prostate problem is still a factor. But, we checked in to a wonderful Inn in downtown Detroit. It is four buildings from the 1800's that had belonged ot people of prominance in Detroit. It must have been a fabulous era with carriages and servants. These homes were bought by the Detroit Institute of Arts and then several wealthy business people went in with them and they were completely rennovated with all the gorgeous woodwork and Pewabic pottery hearths and tiles, etc. We stayed in one of the buildings and the wedding was held in the courtyard behind us and in front of the original carriage house. Our building was made of blocks of grey and white unpolished marble!!!! Our room had a sleigh type bed with fabulous bedding, a non working original fireplace, a sitting room/office and a completely modern bathroom. We were on the second floor reached by a grand staircase.
The wedding was first class all the way. Bride and groom in tan..she in a brocade, form fitting dress with veil and he in a lovely suit. Warfield and Jean were also in tan..she in a lovely gown and her sister, Sharon in a brown, strapless.
The wedding was under a bower and we all sat in rows of white chairs. We were one of two non black couples and the others were all dressed in high, gorgeous fashion as only people of their economic rank can be. We were brought into our building for hor doeuvrs (sp?) after the ceremony while the caterers set up tables in the courtyard. Before, tho, we all had a champagne toast. The tables were round and sat eight. They were covered by brown cloths with tan napkins and now there was a complimentary full bar. We filed in to the carriage house which has been transformed into a meeting and reception center and had a delicious buffet meal. Later the cake was presented and we all stood around and cheered the couple. The weather was perfect..warm and sunny and then a gorgeous evening.
The next day Jim and I walked around the neighborhood and saw that it still needs a lot of help to revive it to it's lost splender but it is coming along.
I would have liked to have spent the day in downtowm Detroit on the riverwalk and around the new and exciting improvements but Jim was being as brave as he could be, long enough. Also, Warfield and Jean had asked us to stop by their home on the way back to E. L. but we had to call and decline. Jim was all done and wanted to get home. But it certainly was a time to remember.
